Task Two - Video (Script)
Unit 1: Evolution of Digital Marketing Assignment 2
Hello and welcome to my video. Today I will talk about the “Evolution of the internet and how consumers use technology”. I will also be exploring how this impacts our lives, I will be going into depth on the following key point:
Devices used by audiences
Access to the internet
Consumers searching for information
Consumers purchases
Video content
Trends of customers
Firstly, let's talk about different accesses to the Internet. As we know, the internet has changed and evolved a massive amount over the years. The internet was first created for military purposes only and then used for the use of science. However, now it is used globally for many different purposes such as social media and business use. WE can access the internet using an array of different methods such as mobiles, wireless, hotspot, broadband, satellites etc. However, according to Evan Andrews blog, on October 28th 2019. The first method to access the internet was in the late 1960s therefore, you can see how the intent and technology has developed over time to pleasure the world.
Furthermore, consumers use different devices to access the internet daily. My graph from my presentation from “Cecil Prescott” demonstrates most of the population in Great Britain use a mobile or smartphone to access the internet and the second most popular being a laptop or notebook. The least popular is demonstrated to be “other mobile phones”. Therefore, this shows the evolution of the intent as most people access the inherent “on the go as a portable method whereas this wasn’t an option when the internet was first invented.
Many people around the world like to buy items online, I know I do! Therefore, I want to explore what consumers buy online and the popularities of this. My graph “future of the real study” conveys that 69% of the UK buy “consumer electronics” and only 6% buy luxury goods. This suggests the impact that technology has as most of the population want to buy online, also buying electronics which could also be another way to access the internet such as an IPad or new phone.
Moreover, there are many methods that consumers can search for information. I want to explore the methods consumes use and what is the most popular method. A source from “Daniel Burstein” shows how consumers would search for information when searching for a local business, product or service. The graph implies that the most popular method is “search engines” and “company websites” and the least popular is “location-based social media sites”. Therefore, this shows the importance of the internet as it attracts consumers to new businesses.
Moving on, online video consumption has evolved and become more popular in recent years. Pamela Bump’s graph demonstrates the reasons why people watch video content with the majority saying helps them relax. This can be shown through entertainment and famous you-tubers. Therefore, nowadays video content is used a massive amount compared to older years as consumers rely more on the internet and believe watching a video on a company website is more resourceful as studies show 55% view online videos daily.
Consumers trends are always changing; trends now will most not likely be trends in a few years. Trends of social media have peaked throughout the years and especially for 2021. 2021 has had the most use of social media; it has had a massive increase compared to the last 4-5 years. This could be with the changing environment such as coronavirus and more people staying at home due to new lockdown legalisation. Therefore, more people will be using the internet, creating more trends.
In conclusion, we can see how much technology has changed over the years, with new trends of social media such as the peak and popularity of Instagram and Snapchat. Technology and the internet has enabled consumes lives to become easier as they can use the internet for a variety of different reasons and able to access this on many different devices, portably. This affects consumers positively as the internet can change lives as there are always new opportunities such as jobs adverts.
